FAQ
What happens in case of bad weather?
Cloudy and rainy stargazing is no fun. Trust us, we’ve made many wishes when seeing shooting stars but controlling the weather is a long shot… To make sure we offer you the best stargazing experience, we will email you at 1 pm on the day of the tour if we need to cancel. More notice may be possible upon request, however we need to check the latest weather forecast.
In the case of cancellation due to overcast skies, we will give you 2 options:
Choose to receive a gift voucher/ credit to reschedule your tour (transferable to other people as a Gift Card) valid for 3 years
Choose to attend our alternative 90-min indoor Planetarium Astronomy tour located in a closed venue in Leura. It is an immersive and interactive astronomy tour led by an astronomer taking place inside a dome with a powerful projector and surround sound.
No refund will be offered in case of cancellation due to bad weather.
For more details, please check our Cancellation Policies.
I booked my tickets, can I change the date?
Sure thing! Please contact us or email us hello@bluemountainsstargazing.com.au to request a change date or any change in your booking and we will send you your new ticket or a voucher! You can request a change in your booking up to 24 hours before the start of your tour. We are open every night and will try our best to accomodate you if the tour is sold out.
How old must my children be to join the tour?
The tour is designed to suit children who are 4 years old and above.
Younger children may join the tour, however we estimate that the tour can be quite challenging to follow at such a young age, they might not be able to get the most out of our tours.
Parents are welcome to bring children under 3 years old for free. We understand it can be challenging—after all, we've all been kids!— that said, we kindly ask parents to help us keep the atmosphere calm and peaceful so all guests can fully enjoy the tour. Our spacious beach setting ensures there's plenty of room for everyone to relax and have a soothing experience under the stars.
What is the best time to join a tour?
The Earth orbits around the Sun in 12 months. As a consequence, the landscape of our starry nights changes a lot throughout the year!
At times you will see the Moon, other times the Milky Way, Mars could be up there, or Saturn, or Jupiter, or Orion. It’s all season dependent.
Here are some pointers: if you like the Moon, come up a night of gibbous night (a few days before or after the Full Moon). If you like the Milky Way, come on a New Moon or when the Moon is set. If you’re unsure, nights with a thin Moon crescent are the best.
If there’s a specific planet or constellation you’d like to see in particular, shoot us an email and we’ll reply to you with a suitable time window to see that object.
Which tour is the best? After sunset or the second tour?
We may run two tours per night (sometimes three on Saturdays in Winter), the value of all the tours is equal, the telescope objects are similar. Our first tour starts 30 minutes after sunset, stars start to be visible at the end of the introduction and you will be fully immersed in the dark. For the couples looking for a romantic experience cuddling under the stars, please note there may be more kids attending the first tour (but it’s rare that we have rowdy little ones at our tours!). So, really it depends if you’re more an early-dinner-person or a night owl.
